Heritage Open Days 16-22 September

“The nationwide event, Heritage Open Days festival 16-22 September, is giving St Oswald’s the time to celebrate and tell its heritage, its setting and church history, the beauty inside, the wild meadow churchyard, its music and bellringing traditions, and more.
You are invited to come during the 16-22 September into St Oswald’s which is specially open during the middle of the day.
Monday 16th September, Director of Music David Harris gives a talk at 1:30pm about our newly refurbished church organ, with some playing to show its magnificent sound. Heritage Open Days will begin at 1:30pm, as a funeral service will take place in the morning.
Tuesday 17th September, church will be open for Heritage Open Day visits from 12:30-2:30pm
Wednesday 18th September, St Oswald’s School Harvest Service starts at 9:15am. No midday service.
Thursday 19th September, Elvet Players a group of musicians who are holding an open rehearsal of their range of classical to jazz repertoire in the church from 1:30-3:00pm. Elvet Players is nearly 10 years old and always welcomes new members of any musical standard.
Friday 20th September, Director of Music David Harris gives a talk at 1:30pm about our newly refurbished church organ, with some playing to show its magnificent sound. A Special Gathering of Parish Neighbours (9:30-10:15am) is only for pupils of St Oswald’s School
Saturday 21st September, our Bell Tower will be open from 11:00am-2:00pm with a 15 minute tour on the hour and half hour, the last at 1:30pm.
Sunday 22nd September, after 11:00am Parish Eucharist, all welcome, a talk about our newly refurbished church organ to include a recital given by our Director of Music David Harris.
Our school, St Oswalds Primary and Nursery, is involved and our bellringers are ringing and giving short tours of the Bell Tower for adults on Saturday. The Elvet Players are holding an open rehearsal practice Thursday early afternoon. Our newly refurbished organ will be the focus of recitals performed by our Organist and Director of Music, David Harris. And the autumnal character of our wild meadow churchyward is celebrated.
